The News About the News -- Allegheny HYP Club & Harvard Club of Western PA Lunch Lecture
Allegheny HYP Club & Harvard Club of Western PA Lunch Lecture presents:
The News About the News
The News About the News
The opening decade of the 21st Century has proven to be an era of change driven by technology. Few industries have changed as dramatically and with such widespread public impact as the everyday news media, primarily the printed newspaper. Papers have closed, consolidated or shrunk. Papers have gone online, some exclusively so. How will tomorrow’s generations stay informed regarding the important issues of the day? The Post-Gazette's executive editor talks about the news of the day and explains why there won't be a day without news, even if it isn't delivered tomorrow the way it is today.
David Shribman’s newspaper career path has been extensive: After graduation from Dartmouth and graduate work at Cambridge University in England, Mr. Shribman began work for the Buffalo Evening News, progressing to The Washington Star, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and the Boston Globe. He came from the Globe’s Washington Bureau to join the Post-Gazette in 2003 as Executive Editor. Mr. Shribman was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in journalism in 1995 for his coverage of Washington and the American political scene. His column, "My Point," is syndicated nationally. Mr. Shribman is an emeritus member of the Board of Trustees of Dartmouth College and of the Board of Visitors of the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for the Social Sciences at Dartmouth, and he is active with several other Non-Profit Organizations.

A Taste of Scotland, This Friday at the Allegheny HYP Club!
$20.00 / per person
Includes the tasting of three scotches and appetizers
Selected Scotches for the Night
Balvenie 15
A glass of Balvenie is like hugging an old friend after a long time away. It's heartwarming and slightly sentimental.
Talisker 10
Talisker is like having a saucy conversation with a very witty companion - full of anticipation for the next turn of phrase or in this case, the next surprising (and rewarding) twist of flavor.
Lagavulin 16
Lagavulin has the feel of slipping into a good tweed jacket on a crisp, autumn night - a little rough on the exterior but very comfortable after years of wear.
RSVP to Beth or Lauren at
412-281-5858 or email at bkurcina@alleghenyhypclub.com or
lwilliams@alleghenyhypclub.com
For more information please see the event listing here: A Taste of Scotland.
